On March 28th 2026, OpenCity conducted a datajam in Chennai on the topic of Constituencies. Abdullah, Harini, Kathir, Prasanna and Santhosh looked at the state of government schools in the sixteen constituencies in Chennai district. They used data from the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) 2023-24, compared it with the equivalent data from 2017-18 to understand the change (improvement or deterioration) over the years.
They ranked the constituencies based on two parameters – Pupil-Teacher Ration (PTR) which is an indicator of staffing in the schools and the presence of toilets for girls, which is a key indicator of facilities.
