Tabebuia Blooms in Bengaluru

Few things announce the arrival of Spring in Bengaluru better than the blooming of pink Tabebuias across the city. The Tabebuia rosea tree, while not being a native of the subcontinent has become naturalised as a part of Bengaluru.

Residents of Bengaluru have been tracking their blooming through multiple ways.

X user Malavika used the data from the BBMP tree census to plot the Tabebuia trees across the GBA area.

www.Blrbloom.com is another site where the trees are plotted in an interactive map where you can zoom into the map and find a tree closest to you. This site also uses the BBMP tree census.

A word of caution though. The BBMP tree census data currently enumerates 6.82 Lakh trees and has since stalled since last August. The state of the tree census is currently uncertain with the transition from BBMP to the five corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority.
