Bengaluru just got its first-ever split budget. BBMP is gone, GBA is here. I dug through all 5 zone budgets provided by OpenCity.in, here’s what stood out:
💰 ₹20,217 Crore combined budget across all 5 zones.
🏗️ 50–69% of every rupee goes to roads & infrastructure. West zone tops at 69%.
🗑️ ₹2,308 Cr on garbage collection vs ~₹500 Cr on public health.
🌿 Horticulture + Urban Forestry across all 5 zones: ₹400 Cr (2% of total) for a city losing tree cover fast.
💸 North zone is issuing ₹200 Cr in municipal bonds for capital works.
📚 East Bangalore’s entire Public Education budget: ₹60 Lakhs.
🔴 East is the only zone running a deficit, every other zone (barely) balanced its books.
I built an interactive Sankey chart to explore where each zone’s money flows, what do you think about our budget allocations?
